In 2015 Nic Bothma and Justin Scholk founded the Globephoto project designed to bridge social divides within South Africa’s diverse communities using photography.

Workshops teach student photographers from various social and economic backgrounds the basic skills of photography, story telling and photojournalism. As the students develop proficiency in the art of photography they are invited to document in the area of another school in a different community.

By visiting each others communities and documenting them our schools then collaborate with exhibitions and viewings of the work where students get to view and discuss the photography portraying their areas taken by students from another community. This develops a dialogue between the students and serves as a tool for breaking down social barriers and fostering greater social cohesion, understanding, acceptance and inclusivity.

Now morphed into the Matrix photo workshops the work continues with the program expanding into new areas.
